NON-RESIDENT LICENSING
The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) is a non-profit affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). NIPR was established in October 1996 to develop and operate a national repository for producer license information (PDB) and to establish a network to facilitate the electronic exchange of producer information (NIPR Gateway).
The Producer Database (PDB) is an electronic database consisting of information relating to insurance agents and brokers (producers) accessible through NIPR on a subscription basis through the Internet. PDB links state regulatory licensing systems into one common system establishing a repository of producer licensing information. PDB also contains or references producer information from sources such as the Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) of the NAIC.
Non-Resident Licensing (NRL) applications can be transmitted via the NIPR Gateway. The NRL application allows for first time licensing and for adding new lines of authority to an existing license (excluding New York and Alabama). It is not to be used for license renewals. It is also not to be used for reinstatements unless you are applying to a state that accepts reinstatements.
